Danish Longball

Status:Active, open to new members
Convenor:
When: Monthly on Tuesday mornings 10:30 am
Second Tuesday of the month, March to November
Venue: Greenwich Park

Danish Longball is a mix of rounders, cricket and dodgeball. It's a fun game which involves fielders, and batters who get runs by running up the pitch and back (you can rest in the safe space at the top) whilst your opponents aim the ball at you to try to get you out ( it's a tennis ball which doesn't hurt)!

This is a game for people wanting to have a laugh rather than to show off any remaining sporting prowess. We have players who trot a bit as well as those that can run, and players who try to whack the ball very hard (it has to bounce before it leaves the pitch and so that won't work) as well as those who drop the bat and run. There are plenty of missed catches and missed passes and it really doesn't matter if you were ever good or bad at sport.

We usually manage a couple of innings each and then go for coffee afterwards.

We try to meet on the second Tuesday of every month (except for December, January and February) at the bandstand in Greenwich Park at 10.30am. Check the weekly news email for confirmation of our sessions.

New players are always welcome - the more, the merrier!  Just let the convenor (link above) know you are planning on coming along.

Wear shoes that you can run/trot in, and bring water for hydration, as well as money for an optional coffee afterwards.

On Sunday 8th June 2025, the Danish Longball match against the Blackheath branch of the WI was a success all round. The WI had been trained up, and we had a pre-match practice innings. Everyone played extremely well but the U3A triumphed ( our monthly sessions have paid off).
