JOINING INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in joining our u3a! We have over 70 interest groups holding regular meetings. The majority are in person, but a few are meeting either wholly or partially online. For more information, please follow the Groups tab. There you can check the list of groups alphabetically, by category, by meeting day or by venue. Click on a group to find the details of what it does and from each group page, you can send a message to the group convenor to find out more. We also circulate regular email updates via a weekly news email. We strongly recommend that members have an email address as this allows our small, volunteer-led committee to get information to you in a cost and time-effective manner. The Membership Fee from the 1st January 2026 for new members is £32 per person and our membership year is from 1st May until 30th April. We also offer Associate Membership of £22 per person if you have full membership of another u3a.

How to Join.

We have an online membership application form. This is usually the simplest and most efficient way to apply.

If you prefer you can download a PDF version and send it to the address on the form. PDF version.

Please post it back to the address on the form, or if you pay by bank transfer and are able to scan the form as a PDF document then you may prefer to email it to our membership secretary at u3aselmem@gmail.com.

Benefits of membership:

  • Participate in as many available u3a SEL activities as you wish, usually for no extra charge (except for refreshments, some materials and some classes with tutors). It is possible that some popular classes may be at capacity, and you may need to go on a waiting list for a short time.
  • Receive the weekly email updates about our u3a’s activities and the regular national magazine Third Age Matters.
  • Gain access to regional and national events, such as online events, Shared Learning Projects and the popular Summer School activities, occasionally for a modest additional fee.

We encourage payment of subscription fees by bank transfer, but you can also pay by cheque. On joining we will send you a membership card with a membership number (which will need to be noted by any Group that you join), and a note of a password which you will need to access the Members’ pages.
